Ustad Rashid Khan was an Indian classical musician who belonged to the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, widely regarded as one of the foremost exponents of Hindustani classical music of his generation. Born on 1 July 1968, he was trained in music from an early age under his maternal grand-uncle Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan, continuing a rich family tradition of classical musicians. Renowned for his mastery over various classical forms of singing, Rashid Khan is particularly admired for his deep, resonant voice, intricate taan patterns, and emotive improvisation. While firmly rooted in classical traditions, his music is also known for its accessibility, helping bridge classical music with wider contemporary audiences.In addition to an extensive career in classical concerts across India and internationally, Rashid Khan has contributed as a playback singer to Indian cinema, lending his voice to select Hindi films and soundtracks. His work in films has been noted for retaining classical purity while adapting to cinematic contexts. Rashid Khan has received numerous accolades for his contribution to Indian music, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, among others.
