Evans started acting at 3 years old. He is the fourth child of six siblings. He is of Maori, Tahitian, and mixed European descent and speaks fluent Maori. His iwi (tribe) associations are the Ngati Whaatua and Nga Puhi, with sub tribes Ngati Hine, Ngati Kahu and Te Aupouri.
